Domestic Violence and Protective Orders

When Violence Threatens Your Family, You Need a Strong Ally

Domestic violence is believed to be the most common, yet least reported, crime in the country. When emotions run high or patience runs out, some spouses resort to intimidation and violence. But domestic violence is a crime, and one punishable by law. Domestic violence includes married couples, children, dating couples and household family members. If you are suffering domestic violence, first call the authorities. Then call attorney Golda R. Jacob at 713-227-7383 for a confidential consultation about your options.

Protective Orders

Chapter 71 of the Texas Family Code specifically defines legal procedures that allow for family violence and dating violence to be acted upon by law enforcement and prosecuted. Whether you are dating or in the middle of a difficult divorce, you have rights, and a good lawyer can help you defend them.

A protective order can be issued to protect anyone who suffers abuse, assault, stalking, terroristic threats or a threat that causes fear of imminent physical harm. The order can be issued before, during or after a divorce. A person who violates the protective order (restraining order) can go to jail.

While many women seek protective orders, we are seeing an increase in men seeking them as well. After all, male or female, any person holding a gun is very dangerous, and abuse takes many forms. Protect yourself. We can help you get a temporary protective order in place quickly and follow it up with a permanent order.
